    CAMP O' THE HILLS FACTS

  • Purchased by the Jackson Girl Scout Council and began operation in 1928.
  • Operated in compliance with the high standards of the Girl Scouts of the USA, the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services Camp Licensing Division, the American Camping Association and the Jackson County Health Department.
  • Serves over 2,000 members each year.
  • Located on 109 acres of property in the heart of the Irish Hills area.
  • Used by council members throughout the year for residential programs, day events, organizational meetings, and troop camping.
  • Troop Leaders attend a series of required camp trainings to ensure quality outdoor experiences.
  • Outdoor program staff members are selected for their skills, experience, and interest in children as well as through standard interviews and reference reports.

Read the following questions and choose your answer.  Be honest.  This quiz will help you decide if you are
ready to attend one of our awesome resident camps. 
KEY:  1 = no   2 = not sure  3 = yes

 

  1.  Can you stay overnight at a friend's house without missing your family?
  2.  Can you shampoo your own hair and keep it brushed and neat?            
  3.  Are you brave when you see insects or bugs? 
  4.  Can you make your own bed and keep track of your belongings?
  5.  Do you like to meet new people and do things with others -- not just your best friend?
  6.  Can you adjust to no air-conditioning in your cabin?
  7.  Can you survive without a radio, cell phone, MP3 player, TV, and computer?
  8.  Do you help keep things clean and tidy around your house?
  9.  Do you like being around other girls who are different from you?
10.  Do you think you are ready for resident camp?

  Add up your answers.

  If you have less than 22 points: 
You will be happiest with a three-day session or one you can attend with your
  troop or family.  Consider day camp or a weekend camp.

  23-26 points: 
You are brave and ready for a week at resident camp!

  More than 27 points:  You are ready for camp or are a veteran camper!  See you soon!
